I have approved this comment to demonstrate that unsubstantiated and self-serving hype undermines the credibility of the "green" movement. Electronic invitations actually kills trees considering the fact that the average PC user generates 28 pages of print each day. Also, formal invitations for weddings and Bar & Bat Mitzvahs and other important events are often printed on 100% cotton paper. Talk about recycling, that is truly "green" indeed!

When people quit hyping the misleading fact that online invitations are "green" we will begin to have an intelligent debate about the environment. Until then, it is just self-serving happy talk full of misinformation and cynicism.

Hi Wedding Planners,

I encourage you all to visit Greenvelope.com for some more traditional wedding evite ideas.

I strive to deliver the most elegant electronic invitation service by emulating the experience of opening a “traditional” printed invitation. By creating a positive online experience, I hope more hosts will consider sending invitations electronically for formal events – to help save trees, and additionally save time and money. To express my commitment towards this goal, I donate 10% of every sale to Mountains to Sounds, a non-profit organization that maintains forests. Together we can "invite" a greener future.

Best,
Sam

With no disrespect to the large and growing community of computer users, a URL on a printed invitation is simply in poor taste. Aside from etiquette, a URL on a wedding invitation is distracting: It basically redirects the attention of recipient to a website rather than the wedding event itself. Furthermore, it is next to impossible to copy and paste the URL from a wedding invitation into your browser. For those who wish to direct the attention of their guests to a personalized website template of the bridal couple, I suggest using the "Save the Date" or "Travel and Accomodations" card that is often sent before the invitation to point your guests to the appropriate URL.

Get with the times! Putting a URL on a printed invitation is perfectly acceptable. Many people now create lovely wedding websites to share photos, tell the story of their engagement, and provide information about where they are registered. Besides, it is mostly young people who get married. Those in their twenties have been using computers their whole lives, so why on Earth would we leave off a website from our invitations?

I am all for "going green", in fact I do many things in my everyday life to help save the planet. However, there are certain things in life that are enriched in tradition and should continue to be that way.

Also, I am a 30 something woman who considers herself to be "pretty techie". I use Facebook for personal and business use, I Tweet everyday for business and I encourage my brides to have a wedding website.

However, all that being said wedding invitations, business correspondance and thank you notes are just a few places where we need to encourage tradition to continue and recyle all that paper in your trash can instead of cutting back on things that make like personal!

Wow! This is telling it like it is! I totally concur with this whole argument. I think these young people are so web-oriented that they are just maybe not use to printed pieces??Or trying to save money in these economic times??
