This year I hear so much chatter from customers about not sending cards as postage costs so much and not giving gifts because there is a recession or it isn't 'green' to buy more stuff. I am horrified as a retailer since I see my customer not spending as much. But I thought about all of this and truly feel I need to remind them of the meaning behind those 'greetings and gifts.' When I engage them in this way they rethink their commercialized vision of the season and think about how a greeting can be a gift and a gift a token representing affection. We need to remind ourselves and each other that reaching out with greetings and gifts makes connections that feel good to those we care about. Send, give and receive with the spirit of the season at the heart of it all.
